We decided to spend the first weekend of August in St. Tropez. The plan was to visit our friend Bernar Venet at his art foundation in Le Muy (just an hour outside St. Tropez), enjoy time at the beach, and play tennis in the beautiful South of France.
The Venet Foundation is an outstanding place where the French artist resides after spending 53 years in NYC. The foundation is filled with his incredible pieces as well as work of other artists like James Turrell and Stefan Brüggemann. Bernar was kind enough to give us a tour of his house, which is basically a museum in itself.
After our visit and catch-up, we headed down to St. Tropez for lunch at the beach. Our favorite spot is Indie Beach, a restaurant and beach club fully customised by Jacquemus. We sat at a table under the shade of a parasol, feet in the sand. Looking out over the Gulf of St. Tropez with views of the cliffs, it’s an understatement to say this setting is idyllic.
Our next day was spent playing tennis and having lunch at the beautiful Airelles Château de la Messardière, a stunning hotel perched on a hill. The hotel boasts two sunken synthetic grass tennis courts and two padel courts surrounded by olive trees and lush gardens. The courts are all customised by Lacoste and can easily be accessed by the Chateau’s electric golf carts.
In the evening, we dined at the famous Matsuhisa, designed by Chef Nobuyuki ‘Nobu’ Matsuhisa, where he artistically blends Japanese and Peruvian cuisine together. Here you can also purchase the merchandise of Sushi Club, a project that Nobu Matsuhisa and Chris Stamp collaborated on to celebrate their love of sushi, art, travel, and fashion.
St. Tropez has always been one of our favorite places- and there are good reasons why we keep coming back.
